Online Catalog Instructions
Searching the Catalog
- Click on HIP Online Catalog
- Pick a keyword type such as Title, Author, or General.
- If you select General Keyword, type any combination of terms, for example: grisham client
- Click on Go
- All copies in the MVLC will be displayed
- Limit to North Andover by selecting from the dropdown menu at the upper right of the screen
- Items owned by North Andover will display the Call Number
- Click on More Copies to see all MVLC holdings for that item
- If North Andover doesn’t own a copy, or it is out, select More Copies then Other Locations to find additional MVLC holdings
Advanced Searching Tips
- Select the Advanced Search tab
- Select more than one limiter - such as North Andover AND books on CD - by holding down the Control key (Ctrl) on the keyboard
Placing Holds
- To hold items that are Checked In at North Andover, call the Reference Department (978-688-9505) to have the item set aside for you
- If the item is out or not owned by the Library, check to see if it is available at Other Locations
- To request an item:
- Click on Request Item
- Enter your library card number (on the back of your library card)
- Enter your PIN number which is the last four digits of your phone number
- Login
- Select Pickup Location and click on Request
- You will see a confirmation that the hold was placed
- Logout
- Note: Do not use the Back button or you may be automatically logged out
Accessing Your Account
- Click on the My Account/Login tab
- Enter your library card number and your PIN number
Renewing Books
- Login to My Account
- Click on Checked Out/Renew
- Note: If the item has a hold placed on it, or if it is overdue, it may not be renewed
Checking Your Holds
- Login to My Account
- Click on Holds
- Request status means that your hold has not yet been filled
- Transit status means that the item is on the way
- Hold status means that the item has arrived and is on the hold shelf at the library
- To delete a hold, select title(s) and click on Cancel Request
- If you are having difficulty, or your held item has not arrived, please call the Reference Department (978-688-9505)
Logging Out
- Remember to Logout if you are at a public computer, otherwise the next patron will be in your account
- If you forget to Logout, the computer will do it for you automatically after 10 minutes.
