Come and learn how to make origami ornaments that can be used for holiday decorations or other special days. Time permitting, you may be able to make a few.

This workshop is grade 3 and higher. Registration is required. Please sign up in the Children’s Room.

From Monday, Nov. 10 through Saturday, Dec. 20, the Stevens Memorial Library is accepting donations instead of collecting fines. There are some guidelines to follow; the most important to remember is a person must come into the Stevens Memorial Library to take advantage of this grace period. Donations (unopened, non-perishable box and can foods — not expired, please — or toiletries) may be brought to the Main Circulation Desk or the Children’s Room Circulation Desk to have your library record cleared.

Eligible fines: current fines returned in Stevens and older fines on your record.

Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room

Watch the Great Debaters film, then stay for a light buffet and dinner conversation. Dr. William Smith, Executive Director of the Center for Diversity in the Communitcation Industries of Emerson College, will lead the conversation. Dr. Smith’s extensive background as an educator, in diversity relations, and as a film-maker himself, brings much to a conversation.

Nov. 22, Sat. from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.  This program is FREE, but PRE-REGISTRATION is required to allow for meal planning. Please register at the Reference Desk.

This it the final 1 Book, 1 Community Program event for the year.

The Stevens Library 2008 “1 Book, 1 Community” events will begin in a few weeks. Start reading now, if you haven’t already.  “1 Book” programs encourage people to come together as a community for conversation, fun, and fellowship.

This year’s titles are: MARCH by Geraldine Brooks (adult), LIZZIE BRIGHT AND THE BUCKMINSTER BOY by Gary Schmidt (middle school), and PRISCILLA AND THE HOLLYHOCKS by Ann Broyles (youngest readers).  The books are available at the Library.

What’s coming up?   Book discussions, movies, craft activities, visits by an author and an illustrator, and a special historical person performance.
